Future Events 40th Class Reunion (probably September 2012) Our 40th Reunion will be probably be held at the Moose during the weekend of the 2012 Wyandot County Fair. Deb Passet and Moe (Steinbaugh) Dickerson are coordinating the event. Deb is Director of the Wyandot County Board of Elections, so she will be able to easily locate classmates in Ohio! I'll help with out-of-staters. Past Events Zeke Reunion Concert (5 July 2008) Legendary Upper Sandusky rock band Zeke reunited to perform for the first time in nearly 36 years as headliners for the first Wyandot Music Festival at the fairgrounds. The Daily Chief-Union estimated the crowd at this free event at over 2,000! Class of 1972 classmate Mark Strasser returned to Upper for the first time in 25 years to play lead guitar. He traveled all the way from Lakeland, FL for this concert! Other classmates who traveled from out-of-state for this event included Ken Savidge who came from Murrell's Inlet, SC to work with the sound and lighting; Marti McCord who flew in from Nashville, TN to attend; and Jeanne (Van Scoit) Garrison who came from Pittsburgh PA. I have written and posted a detailed account of their concert, including set list and photos. Click here to see them. This concert also included the reunion of Marble, a legendary Upper band from a more recent decade. See the same web page for details. Speaking of Zeke, in 2007 I digitized a cassette recording I'd made
of a 1972 Zeke concert in Harrison Smith park. Sound quality is poor
but it will really take you back!

As one of the organizers, I knew in advance who was coming so there weren't many surprises for me. The big one, a total shocker, was walk-in Dave Margraf, who lives in New Braunfels, TX! He knew about the reunion from the invitation and happened to be in the area for his mother's birthday celebration. Music was provided by Dr. Ike and the Funk King recommended by Norma (Frey) Rodriguez. They can really rock out, and I received several requests for them to turn down the volume. "Dr. Ike" is Isaac Orians, a local chiropractor, and "Funk King" is Eric King, son of the late Jim King of Zeke fame. Both of them would go on toe perform in the 2008 Zeke reunion concert with both Marble, their early band, and with Zeke. Check the Gallery for photos from the reunion. I admittedly did not take many because I was too busy working! If you were there, feel free to send me any of yours! We have been very fortunate to have had a reunion every five years since graduation, and with a different pair of classmates willing to coordinate each time! That's pretty unusual, and special. I still have a dozen or so booklets left. They were professionally printed and bound on heavy stock by Mike Tesmer of Xerox (thanks again, Mike!), and you can have one for $2 to cover the envelope and stamp cost. Let me know. |
